A word about data backup

Given the mission critical nature of access control and employee time keeping data, special attention must be given to doing everything possible to ensure you do not lose data. These are three areas of risk that you can devise recovery stategies for. 1. Server hard drive failure - Solution - Have software RAID 1 implemented on your server. This will usually mean no interruption in service or loss of data from a single hard drive failure. The server will simply run off the remaining hard drive and notify you to replace the defective drive. 2. Server motherboard failure- Solution - Simply remove the hard drive(s) and reinstall in new server and you are up and running. 3. Catastrophic server loss (fire, flood, tornado, theft, power surge, etc.) - Solution - Back data up to external source (such as our USB hard drive) daily and store it off site. This way you will only lose the data collected since your last backup. You can replace the lost hardware and restore your database from the off site backup. Every organization has different procedures for backup of critical data. We encourage you to implement a backup plan for your data before you have data you can not lose.
